Canadian “Human Rights” structure gets some attention in Washington

Canada’s Human Rights Commission have come to the attention of the US State Department.  In its annual report on “International Religious Freedom” for this year, the report makes special note of a number of high-profile anti-Christian cases that have surfaced within the Canadian context in the past year, including the Stephen Boissoin prosecution, Saskatchewan’s decision on not allowing marriage commissioners to refuse to perform same-sex marriages, and the MacLeans/Mark Steyn case, the Ezra Levant prosecution, and the Catholic Insight case.
The report doesn’t make any value judgements about the processes involved, but the very fact that this has hit the radar at the State Department speaks volumes about how Canada is starting to be perceived on the international stage in terms of issues of religious liberty.
The full report, incidentally, is online here
