Hard left feminist Liberal MPs attack Tory MP on abortion

House of Commons Hansard – November 25, 2009
Question Period: Status of Women

Mrs. Lise Zarac (LaSalle-Émard, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, the member for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin recently made comments about abortion that insulted and denigrated women. The member made statements that are medically incorrect to support his moral ideology. Will the Minister of Health repudiate her colleague’s beliefs with respect to a woman’s right to choose?

Hon. Helena Guergis (Minister of State (Status of Women), CPC): Mr. Speaker, I note for the member that all members of Parliament in the House are required to have their own opinion. It does not mean it is the opinion of the government.

Hon. Anita Neville (Winnipeg South Centre, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, it looks like the muzzles are off. The Conservatives are sounding like Reform Party extremists. The member for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin’s comments are completely degrading to women. He claims that abortion causes “a greater risk of breast cancer” and he asserts that abortion is “part of a male agenda to have women more sexually available”. His comments show an odious attitude toward women. Will the Minister of Justice stand up for women and denounce these vile comments?

Hon. Helena Guergis (Minister of State (Status of Women), CPC): Mr. Speaker, I again will note for the member that each member of the House is able to have his or her own opinion. It does not mean it represents that of the government. What I will highlight is that this government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, has made significant investments in Status of Women Canada. We have three pillars of focus: economic security, violence against women, and women in leadership roles. We also have the highest percentage of women in cabinet in Canada’s history, and the highest level of funding at Status of Women Canada in Canada’s history, with an increase in the number of grassroots organizations that are now able to receive funding to support the most vulnerable women in Canadian society.

  1. The most vulnerable women in Canada are those in the womb. The ‘opinion’ of the Prime Minister is that abortion is not “in my area of interest”.
I believe him. He has shown no interest in the continued lying and manipulating of education and media by the culture of death. His government continues to fund, sometimes through the ‘Status of Women’, many groups who work diligently to eradicate the place of ‘family’ in Canadian society.

While I can understand that someone might disagree with the statement that abortion is “part of a male agenda to have women more sexually available” (although, personally I agree) I do not see how this is insulting and denigrating to women. If the comment insults anyone, it is men. I am even more perplexed by how these politicians can see insult in a claim that abortion causes a greater risk of breast cancer. As far as I know this claim is true, but even if it were false, how does it insult anyone? Once again the stereotype is reinforced that feminism is about women portraying themselves as offended victims, no matter how little sense it makes.

And I agree with Loretta that Harper and the Conservative Party does not represent the interests of unborn children. Pro-life Canadians are severely limited in our voting options. During the last election, I spoiled my ballot because there were no pro-life candidates.

Prime Minister Harper may have assumed the position of official ditherer on the abortion tragedy, but Vellacott didn’t and never did, and Rod Bruinuge (misspelled I know), leader of the Conservative Pro-life caucus that Harper allows to exist, and many others.
    .
I urge JayneK and Loretta get involved WITHIN the Conservative Party and keep the pressure on through letters, strategic donations, and EDA involvement etc. and telling others.
    .
Harper needs evidence of pro-life pressure (from within and without) to bring to the table, otherwise they’ll souflay him and the unborn will never have a voice any time soon.

Re: Abortions by back alley abortionists.
Update on Henry Morgentaler pseudo-medical fraudster who for all that we know never studied medicine in Germany before he came to Canada and obtained his medical diploma at U of M by fraud:
Office of Privacy Commissioner of Quebec just sent me three letters confirming that they are peroceeding with my complaints against the University of Montreal and the Medical College of Quebec for refusing to release to m e copies of documents showing on what basis Henry Morgentaler received his medical diploma at U of M and on what basis he got licence to practice medicine in Canada.

    Joseph,
There may be individual pro-life candidates within the Conservative Party (just as there are within the Liberal Party), but it has been made very clear that when the Conservatives are in power they do nothing to help the unborn. At this point, I would vote for a strongly pro-life candidate regardless of party. I used to have reservations about voting for the Family Coalition Party, but now am hoping they have a candidate in my riding for the next election. I have come to the conclusion that voting FCP will send the clearest message to the government.

    JayneK,
Just so you know, the FCP is an Ontario provincial party, not a federal party. The federal NDP and Green are officially pro-abortion, and the Liberal party is unofficially pro-abortion (which means, if you are pro-life your existence as a candidate is strict political expediency for other gainful reasons). The Conservative party does not screen-out pro-lifers. Freedom of conscience and moral opinion is valued and preserved in the Conservative Party, not suppressed. People like you need to get involved and be an educating force from within in order to help those babies survive.

    Joseph,
I realized after I wrote that ought to have said Christian Heritage Party rather than FCP (my attitude toward both is similar) since we were discussing federal politics. I think that my best way of influencing the Conservative Party is to show it how it has alienated people like me and lost our votes. Maybe I can educate them that if they ignore the concerns of pro-life people, then they don’t get support from pro-life people.
