Pro-family Americans won the battle against homosexual “marriage” in Maine, but they failed to win battles against special rights for homosexuals in Washington state and Michigan. In Washingon, electors were voting on several measures including Referendum 71 to grant homosexual couples the same rights as genuinely married couples, and the results were extremely close at 4am this morning, with 51% support to 49% against. In Kalamazoo, Michigan, voters supported a “non-discrimination” measure by a vote of 62% to 38%.
These election results suggest that conservatives are failing to convince Americans of the legitimacy of their arguments. Perhaps this is because many pro-family forces are no longer bothering to make the best arguments. The social science shows that there are significantly higher detrimental outcomes in children who are not raised in intact homes by their natural parents. This is as true for homosexual parents as all others. Homosexual parenting also increases the likelihood that children will experiment with this destructive behaviour and lifestyle. Homosexual activists have also demonstrated that 90% or more of their legislative interest is sexual in nature and, therefore, incredibly self-centered and narcissistic, an attitude that is wholly incompatible with the best interests of society, which requires self-government, a commitment to service and a spirit of sacrifice and commitment to the interests of others. The evidence is also clear that it is not those who disagree with homosexuality – predominantly Christians – who engage in violence against homosexuals, so there is no factual basis on which to justify hate-crime laws which target Christians while doing nothing to stop violence against homosexuals.
At various levels and in a variety of ways, the homosexual mentality is incompatible with the survival of civilization. Christians and other conservatives need to be intelligent and articulate – and persistent – enough to keep making these points – with all the social science research that does exist to back up these points – if we want succeed in preserving our culture, returning it to its Christian foundations and leaving something for our children to inherit.
