Next Saturday at 10:00 am, please come out to Bowmanville (Bowmanville OCRC, 2607 Concession Road 4)  to be encouraged in your work for the CHP in Ontario East and to hear Stephen Boissoin. Despite the short notice, I trust that this meeting will be well worth attending. We will be discussing some election and membership strategy, goals and challenges and enjoying…

“An hour with Stephen Boissoin….”

Most of us have received a fine in the past, perhaps for speeding, for not wearing a seat belt, or for some other minor driving offence. Although this may anger you at the time, likely deep down you know you deserved it. Now imagine being fined for something you said or wrote in your local newspaper.

You may remember Rev. Steve Boissoin who had a Human Rights Complaint filed against him for writing a letter to the editor of his local newspaper. In the letter he expressed his opinion that homosexuality is immoral and dangerous. At the Human Rights Tribunal, Steve had to pay for his own defence while his accuser, homosexual activist Dr Darren Lund, had his expenses paid for by the government. The Tribunal found Boissoin guilty and he was ordered to pay $7,000 in damages. In addition to this they also called for Boissoin to personally apologize to Lund in a public statement in the local newspaper and never to speak on the subject of Homosexuality again.

Steve Boission could have paid the fine and apologized compromising his faith. Instead he is defending God’s truth, first at the Tribunal and now before the courts. Fighting now for seven years, his legal expenses are now in the $100,000’s. This has meant hardship for him and his family with ever increasing legal debt. Although at first he was largely on his own in this battle, over time fellow believers have come to give him support and financial assistance. But the battle is not over for him and the cost continues to climb.

Political activist and author Ezra Levant says that this is one of the most significant freedom of speech cases in Canada and is right out of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four. Boissoin’s case has been discussed and debated across Canada, in Parliament, the US Senate and and before A United Nations Committee hearing on Human Rights.

How should we react to this? Should we keep silent? Should we protest? Will we as believers be affected? Have we already been cowed into a corner? Is there anything that can be done to stop the oppression caused by the Human Rights Tribunal? Learn about what our response should be and why.

When: Saturday, Oct 17, 09 from 1:30 -2:30 pm (sorry for the short notice)
Where: OCRC of Bowmanville (downstairs)

There will be a collection to help Steve with his legal fees.

The letter to the editor which Steve wrote is on his website: http://www.stephenboissoin.com/index.html

The agenda and minutes will follow. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

I look forward to seeing all of you again,

Peter Vogel
