Some thoughts today in the passing of Father Richard John Neuhaus last week. Columnist Michael Gerson says Neuhaus, in his final years, developed a “pro-life view of death” that helped to define evangelical thought in America. Definitely worth a read, and you’ll find it here.
The United Nations Human Rights Council held a vote earlier this week, condemning Israel for its continued military action in the Gaza strip. One ofthe most notable dissenters to that vote was Canada. Lorne Gunter wrote about that vote today in the National Post, and he says we did the right thing.
“Monday’s UNHRC resolution accused Israel of ‘grave’ crimes against humanity in several places, but never once mentioned the eight years of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians that brought about the current fighting. It called for Israel’s military actions to be investigated, but never asked for the same scrutiny of Hamas.” For the rest of the column, click here.
Dick Morris has some interesting questions for Hilary Clinton on his blog today. Morris – a former aide to the Clintons when they were in the White House – says senators should ask Hilary Clinton some pointed questions during her confirmation hearings for the Secretary of State’s position. The questions, he says, should centre on how much money Bill Clinton is making from his connections to Arab governments in the Middle East, and how those connections might influence her in the performance of her duties as Secretary of State.
