Repeal Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Code

Now that Canada’s federal election is out of the way, there’s a new sense of urgency about mounting a campaign to have Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Code repealed.
Gerald Chipeur is the lawyer representing former Alberta Youth Pastor Stephen Boissoin. Tristan Emmanuel had a chance to speak with him about the issue of Human Rights prosecutions in Canada at the recent “Ignite Our Culture” conference in Burlington, Ontario. Mr. Chipeur says it’s critical for people to get in touch with their MP’s and the Prime Minister’s office as early as possible in the new session of Parliament to make their views known.

  1. It is very encouraging to see Tristan Emmanuel now taking up the fight against the tyranny of Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

It is too bad that when HE had a chance to make a difference, he chose to not step up.

Tristan Emmanuel was asked to be a witness in the Lemire constitutional challenge of Section 13. And his testimony was limited to what role truth played. Since under Section 13 “truth is no defence”. This would have been vital evidence that “truth” is needed in this debate, and would have seriously impaired the ability of the censors to continue Section 13 censorship.

And his response, was to agree at first, then played around with my lawyer for months, and when it came time to present his expert report, and he was going to pull out and not assist at all, he didn’t even have the courage to tell Barbara Kulaszka himself.

Gee, thanks for “Standing on guard for thee” I guess “thee” didn’t include ME.

    Thanks

    -Marc Lemire

  2. Hey Marc,

Why not take it up with Tristan himself? Seems kind of low posting like that. If I have a beef with someone, I generally go right to the source.

Tristan and the ECP have been a consistent blessing with my case and Tristan himself has always been a sincere and caring brother. I am very thankful for his ministry.

We all have ’stuff’ going on and we all fall short in the midst of it. I’m sure you can relate.

There are many individuals in the Christian circles that I would like to chide but I choose instead to hold back and trust that God will always work it out.

  3. Hi Marc,

I understand your frustration. Being a free speech advocate can be a lonely place; and often the people we expect to help us either don’t or can’t.

We fell into the latter for reasons that I’d rather share with you personally.

That doesn’t mean we can’t assist in some way now. Give the office a call. Perhaps we can start with a video interview?

    Tristan
